General

Prepare seed beds for outdoor sowing of main crop vegetables next month.

Carry on weeding!

Install guttering and a water butt on your shed, greenhouse or polytunnel. Harvesting FREE rainwater is now essential for DAGA members.

 

Vegetables

Plant out your seed potatoes  but cover shoots with soil if a frost is forecast.

Finish planting of onion sets and continue to sow beetroot, carrots, parsnips, lettuce, spinach, spring onions, kohl rabi, radish, turnips, early peas, Swiss chard.

Sow maincrop peas and make the last sowing of summer broad beans. 

Sow seed leeks and summer cabbage. 

Last month for planting asparagus crowns and Jerusalem artichokes.

Runner beans, sweet corn, courgettes, pumpkins, squashes and outdoor/ridge cucumbers can now be sown under glass.

Protect any early strawberries with netting to keep birds and squirrels out.
